Simple poll - BUT I am one that always like to fully explain the rationale for it, so...
The original rules (brought over from PBL for the most part) were lengthy and somewhat complicated. PBL is a much older league and has been through several version of OOTP and many years of rule refinement, I find that rules are much harder remove than they are to add. And the hardest thing might be to actually "change" an existing rule and retain it. Debate ensues, as it should.
My goal for ABL is to have the simplest set of rules of any online league where possible, only adding what is required to help OOTP in an online environment. Therefore I edited the rules substantially to what they are now.
Retaining salary is a new item in OOTP18, therefore there is little history on it. PBL (and some other leagues) allowed sending "cash" to pay off salary, which had to be done in the back end of the game manually. I am not going to do that now that salary can be retained of course. And, although not pertinent here, cash can still be sent.
The original rule for sending cash contained a bunch of things, but to cover a contract was basically: The payment CAN NOT exceed 50% of its lowest annual earning.
I reduced that to one line with the following in my new rules for ABL: Retained salary (new OOTP feature) for any traded player must not exceed 50%.
In Slack, in the #tradeblock channel (and I am NOT singling out any one GM, just using this for the poll) covering 90% of a salary was offered to secure a draft pick in trade. Hence this poll.
Frankly, unless someone sees an obvious exploit, I would be fine NOT having this rule at all (at least at this time, until and if an exploit comes about), but I will leave this decision to you! Please vote!
That said, the next line will stay:
Cash included in any trade must not exceed 50% of the value of the highest contract year.
And in my mind that means going either way.
