My ABL Commissioner Introduction
Hello!
My name is David and Derek has graciously allowed me to step in as Commissioner of the American Baseball Legion to keep this new league going.
I thought a very brief introduction might be in order.
I have played OOTP since version 10 and almost immediately became involved in the online world and love it! Presently I am in a couple of leagues as a GM. Most of the names I recognize in this one are because of my association with Derek’s other league Paramount Baseball League (PBL). I run the Expos, after several years building the Angels into a contender. I am Canadian and could not resist the Montreal Expos.
I have also been a league Commissioner previously, until work relocation shut down my internet capability. I am well past that now, but just wanted to assure you I have done this before.
While my concept for this league is nowhere near as grand as Derek’s, I can envision a few things I would love to implement and will conduct a vote on several just to get a feel from the GM’s. But I also think it prudent to just step in and run the league for a season, maybe two, before making any sort of changes, so please don’t expect grand plans, I would rather we concentrate on playing the game, building our franchises and getting some consistent history under our belts before venturing too far.
I must admit I tend to find some leagues get a little too adventurous and often implode under the weight of the customization, quirks and complications. I prefer to compete on the field and use enough rules to aid OOTP, where needed, to do that!
I am well aware that you can pretty well never get 30 GM’s of diverse play skills and preferences on the same page, so I will tread lightly, but I will follow the rules as set out in a black and white fashion. Rules, just to help the AI in the game and provide guidance on things like the draft and lottery are needed, and as such they should be followed. Once you get into grey areas, the 30 voices get very loud, very fast.
I also know that with any change comes the chance of losing one, or more, of you. I respect your time and a decision to leave for whatever reason. I hope it doesn’t happen, but also know it will. All I ask is that you stay committed right to the very end and then just give me a heads up.
That said, I am going to tweak the current rules ever so slightly to streamline them for my benefit. Please brush up when they are posted. I will clearly identify where they will change.
I see Slack as a great tool and will welcome it in ABL. But I also know it flies by and for anything, like trades, rules, stories, history and anything requiring a record for the league, I will use the forum. I would ask that you have a forum account and check it as needed please.
I am here to have fun and provide a great experience. If you know Derek’s background, you know his shoes will be large ones to fill. I am ready and hope you come along for the ride!
David
Derek and I are communicating right now to transition control of the related league, web, game software.
We will work to make this as smooth and painless as possible.
I know you have waited several days already. Please give us a few more and then we will be right back on a schedule with ABL.
Thanks in advance for investing your time in the league.
